Check that the condenser coils at the back aren't clogged with dust — dirty coils force the compressor to overwork and can lead to total failure. Also check that door seals are airtight by doing the paper test.

Run a hot wash monthly with a cup of white vinegar or bicarbonate of soda. Always leave the door open after each wash to allow air circulation and prevent mould from building up inside the drum.

Clean or replace your aircon filter every 3 months. A blocked filter is the most common cause of poor cooling. Also ensure the outdoor unit isn't obstructed by plants, debris or direct sun.
